Concern has grown in recent years over the assertion by manufacturers of quantum-based commercial equipment that these products are intrinsic standards. A.J. Wallard, Deputy Director of the NPL, United Kingdom, and T.J. Quinn, Director of the BIPM, make a joint statement to the world’s metrology community to consider carefully the use of terminology such as intrinsic standard when applied to commercial equipment.
