Abstract: This paper deals with accreditation of calibration laboratories, considering that for many calibration technicians the step to accreditation is a significant border to cross on the road to professional calibration. The paper consists of three parts, an introduction on conformity assessment and accreditation from an historic perspective; second we discuss the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025; the final part of the paper is devoted to accrediting organisations and their interrelations.
